The imprint

Independent, individual and designed around the author.

The Wren Press gives women authors a dedicated home within Tricorn Books: a place for stories of memory, family, work, love, resilience, imagination and reinvention.

“We know that publishing a book is a personal journey, can be a considerable investment and one that often involves difficult decisions along the way. That’s why the first step is a human conversation with us at the Wren Press.”

This page is deliberately practical: what we publish, how the publishing process works, transparent and considered pricing, why Wren Press and how an author can speak to the team before choosing a route.

What we publish

Books with heart, craft and purpose.

For authors who want guidance, not guesswork. Each project is shaped around the manuscript, the reader, the budget and the author’s aspirations.

1

Fiction & storytelling

Novels, short stories and character-led fiction with strong emotional worlds, distinctive voices and room to breathe.

2

Historical

Historical fiction, local history, family history and carefully researched books that bring the past to life for today’s readers.

3

Cookery & lifestyle books

Recipe collections, food writing, home, garden and lifestyle books shaped with clear structure, warmth and visual care.

4

Children’s books

Stories, picture books and illustrated projects for younger readers, with thoughtful support on layout, pacing and print choices.

5

Health & wellbeing

Supportive, practical and reflective books around wellbeing, personal growth, care, recovery and positive living.

6

Poetry & artists’ books

Poetry collections and artist-led books where typography, paper, imagery and pacing matter as much as the words.

How it works

A considered route into print.

We keep the process clear, so you understand the choices before production begins.

Step one

Talk to us

Tell us about the book where the manuscript is now, and what you hope to do with it.

Step two

Send the manuscript

We look at the material properly before advising on editing, layout, design and print.

Step three

Receive advice

We explain what is needed, what is optional and what can sensibly wait.

Step four

Agree the route

You receive a written estimate and decide whether the proposed route feels right.

Step five

Production begins

Editing, proofing, cover design, interior layout and print preparation are handled carefully.

Step six

Book to print

We prepare the final print-ready files and support the route into publication.

Costs and choices

Transparent, considered pricing.

Publishing costs vary because every book is different.
A short poetry collection, a memoir, a fully illustrated book and a long novel all need different levels of editing, design, proofing and print.

Our pricing is transparent and considered. We explain the options in plain English, separate the costs where possible and help you decide what is essential, what is optional and what can wait. For text-only novels, our starter publishing package begins at £899 (plus VAT).

  • A written estimate before production begins.
  • Editing, design, print and publishing costs explained separately.
  • Advice on how print quantity, paper, format and binding affect the final price.
  • No pressure to choose services you do not need.
Text-only novels

Starter publishing package

£899 (plus VAT)

For straightforward text-only novels where the manuscript is ready for production and does not require complex illustrated layouts or heavy editorial work.

First decision

What do you need?

Some authors need the text-only novel package. Others may need proofreading, cover design, bespoke typesetting, illustrated layouts, print-ready files or a more bespoke publishing route.

Manuscript

How much work is in the text?

Length, editing level, structure and image content all affect cost. We look at the manuscript properly before advising how much, if any, additional work it needs.

Before production

A written estimate

You receive a written estimate before production begins, so you can make an informed decision without pressure.

Why Wren?

A name with local meaning.

The name Wren carries a quiet Portsmouth resonance through the ‘Wrens’ of the Women’s Royal Naval Service — a connection to women’s work, service, resilience and the naval city around Tricorn Books.

For the imprint, the word also suggests something small but strong: a clear voice, a crafted nest, a place where stories are gathered and nurtured before they take flight.

Begin the conversation

Talk to us about your book.

You do not need to have everything solved before you get in touch. Send a manuscript, a sample chapter, or simply explain the idea and The Wren Press team will help you understand the next step.
